During sentencing, Chief Justice Michael Evans said Joubouri's bribery and attempt to smuggle drugs to his brother was "sophisticated and deliberate." Chief Justice Evans said an undercover investigation by the Independent Commission Against Corruption against Asker exposed Joubouri's offending. Chief Justice Evans didn't agree with Joubouri's lawyer that his client should receive a suspended sentence.
