The suspect in Officer Justin Hare's murder has been identified as Jaremy Smith, 32, of Marion, South Carolina.
Smith had a flat tire on I-40. When Hare offered to give him a ride into town, Weisler said Smith shot Hare twice and then stole his patrol car.He was wearing blue jeans, a tan Carhartt jacket and either a red or brown hoodie.
Smith is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. If seen, call the New Mexico State Police at 425-6771 or dial 911. New Mexico State Police issued an arrest warrant for Smith, charging him with first degree murder, armed robbery, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, tampering with evidence, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and criminal damage to property.
