Manchester United and Manchester City have both missed out on a World Cup-winning, tenacious, experienced, successful centre forward.
And Manchester failed to take note. Remarkable, considering it's no secret that both clubs could do with a lethal striker. To be fair, former Barcelona star Geyse is top-class and will bring a free-flowing, creative, expressive style. Think of Gonzalez as more of a Disney villain; robust and programmed to win. Both are gifted players and their partnership would have been superb.
Mary Fowler showed her worth in the World Cup, netting two goals and slotting home her penalty in the shootout against France. Jess Park is exciting but still young. Julie Blakstad had a go on the left flank early on last season but didn't get a sniff once Lauren Hemp came back. Jill Roord now enters the equation but surely not as part of the frontline?
Not to put Shaw out of a job, as her game has progressed tenfold since stepping out of Ellen White's shadow, but oh how she could learn from Gonzalez.
