Danny said he was taking photos when he spotted something in the distance
Armature photographer and storm chaser Danny Kenealy went out to take photos in Runcorn this morning when he spotted something unusual close to bridge at around 12.30pm. The 36-year-old said he saw two "tornado" like shapes hovering in the distance.
The weather phenomenon is called a funnel cloud and it was a moment that Danny had been waiting to capture since he started taking photographs. Danny said that the funnel clouds hung in the sky for a minute before fading away.Danny told the ECHO: "I had been there for an hour and noticed something in the distance I could not make out what it was at first. then I realised it was two funnel clouds. I had been waiting years to see them and for me, it was like the missing piece of the jigsaw.
"To capture ones that big and two of them at the same time is rare and I knew what was happening but I was not expecting that. The clouds were dark and it was a big dramatic sky." A funnel cloud is a cone shape that forms when a rotating droplet of wind draws in cloud droplets. They are formed in the same way as a tornado and are typically associated with the formation of thunderclouds.
