A man was transported to the hospital with stab wounds after an altercation near the Redwood City Caltrain station on Wednesday evening. San Mateo County sheriff's deputies, conducting routine patrols at the station platform, observed two individuals engaged in a fight in the breezeway of the adjacent Sequoia Station shopping center around 8:10 p.m. Upon noticing the law enforcement presence, the fight ceased.
During the encounter, deputies discovered one man in possession of a folding knife, while the other man exhibited multiple stab wounds. The injured individual received immediate medical attention and was transported to a local hospital. Authorities anticipate his full recovery. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Cody Dwight Washington of Redwood City, was apprehended without incident. Washington subsequently faced charges of attempted homicide and a parole violation, culminating in his booking at the Maguire Correctional Facility.The sheriff's office expressed their gratitude on social media, stating, 'The swift action and intervention by our deputies during an in-progress stabbing undoubtedly saved the victim's life. The deputies are also credited with swiftly detaining the suspect while officers from the Redwood City Police Department responded to the scene.' As of Thursday, the precise circumstances leading to the altercation remain unclear. Furthermore, the nature of the relationship between the suspect and victim is yet to be determined. According to jail records, Washington is currently detained without bail and scheduled for a court appearance on Friday.
