Officers were called to Darling Road in the inner-city suburb about 4.20pm on Sunday following reports a 22-year-old man had been stabbed in the back.

NSW Police released images of a man they believe can asisst with inquiries into the alleged stabbing. Paramedics treated the injured man at the scene and he was taken to St Vincent's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Detective Acting Inspector Chris Fisher told Ben Fordham on 2GB radio the attack was believed to be random, with the two men not known to each other.Police describe the alleged attacker as aged between 40 and 50 and is of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern or Caucasian descent.The man was wearing a dark top, blue or black trousers with white writing on the front and white joggers.Images of a man who police believe can assist with inquiries into the stabbing have been shared.
