The area has been cordoned off by police since 6.30am today.
Emergency services descended onto Union Street in Swansea city centre after receiving reports of a serious assault at 3.50am today. Wales Online reports that there is a heavy police presence in attendance as the stretch of road remains cordoned off.
It is understood the person standing on a nearby roof is approximately 10m above ground level. Police say the two incidents - the alleged stabbing on Union Street and the person on the roof - are believed to be related.Inspector James Wilson from South Wales Police said: “In the interest of public safety the Strand has been closed in both directions from Welcome Lane to the A483 New Cut Road to allow trained negotiators and emergency services to respond.
"Traffic is coping well, according to traffic monitoring service Inrix. Four police vans, an unmarked police car, an ambulance car, and a fire service van have all been spotted by an eyewitness at the scene. Meanwhile officers are stopping pedestrians from turning left at the Strand towards Parc Tawe retail park."
The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it has left the scene but will re-mobilise if necessary. Top news stories today A spokesperson for the service said: "At 8.02am on Tuesday, May 30th, the Swansea Central, Morriston and Pontardawe crews were called to an incident at the Strand, Swansea. No action is currently required by Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews, crews will re-mobilise if required. South Wales Police and the Ambulance Service are remaining at the scene. Crews left the scene at 10.32am.
