Police said a 31-year-old man was shot in the back and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.

-- A man was shot and wounded Thursday evening near Clark Street and Irving Park Road in Lakeview.

The shooting happened at 7:30 p.m. Police said a 31-year-old man was driving south in the 3900 block of North Clark Street, between Irving Park Road and Byron Street, when a black sedan pulled up next to him and someone inside shot him. Police said the victim was shot in the upper back and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. They reported he was in critical condition.

The crime scene is just a few blocks north of Wrigley Field. Police also cordoned off Clark Street at Addison Street right outside the ballpark, as there were reports the man drove there after being shot.No one was in custody late Thursday. Area Three detectives are investigating.
