Philadelphia police said they received several 911 calls reporting a shooting behind the gym on Grant Avenue:

A man was shot and killed two doors down from his home on the 900 block of Locust Street shortly after midnight, police said.

Officer rushed the 24-year-old to the hospital after they found him on the sidewalk, but he did not survive, Small said. Investigators said someone shot him several times at very close range. Police were still searching for that gunman. As of Wednesday morning, there were at least 268 homicides in Philadelphia this year, down 6% from the same time last year which was ultimately the deadliest in the city on record.
