A man was shot in the arm Saturday night in southeast Houston after confronting an alleged shoplifter, according to Houston police.
Patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting around 9:10 p.m. Saturday, in the 15100 block of Old Galveston Road, Lt. Ignacio Izaguirre told OnScene TV reporters. The officers located a man aged 37 to 38 with a gunshot wound in his arm, Izaguirre said. After speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance camera videos, police believe the man who was shot witnessed a man in his late 20s or early 30s stealing from one of the nearby businesses and confronted him, leading to a fight, according to Izaguirre. Surveillance video shows the man allegedly stealing get into a gray vehicle's passenger side, and then shoot the victim in the arm, he said.
The suspect and the driver of the car, a woman, tried to drive away from the scene, Izaguirre said, but they were forced to abandon the car and flee on foot once the car broke down nearby. The man shot in the arm was taken to the hospital and expected to survive, according to Izaguirre. Police are looking for both the man and woman who fled in the car, he said.
