A man was shot and killed around 1:40 p.m. on Friday at 20th and Mission streets, near the El Capitan Hotel, according to SFPD.

No arrests have been made at this time. The killing, if ruled a homicide, would be the ninth this year, according to SFPD data, and the first in the Mission District. Workers at the Dragon City Bakery on the block did not hear the gunshot, as their baking machine was operating. When they heard that someone was shot, a worker put her hand on her chest, “It’s so scary,” she said in Mandarin.
At 3:52 p.m., an investigator with the medical examiner’s office wheeled out a body under a white sheet, loading the deceased man into a white van.This is an open and active investigation.
