A Maryland man shot by his wife over allegations that he had molested children who attend the day care she owns in Baltimore has been charged with sexual abuse, according to police.
James Weems Jr., a former police officer in Baltimore, has been charged with sex crimes related to the abuse of “at least three children” who attend Lil Kidz Kastle, according to an arrest warrant issued by the Baltimore County Police Department. Weems had worked at the day care facility when the abuses took place, police said.Weems is currently hospitalized in Washington, D.C.
Shanteari Weems is still being held in Washington jail as of Tuesday and faces charges of assault with intent to kill, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of an unregistered firearm. She is expected to claim she acted in self-defense after an argument with her husband “turned violent” and he “started coming toward her,” her lawyers told the Washington Post.
Police responded to a shooting on the eighth floor of the Mandarin Oriental on Thursday around 7:40 p.m. after hotel staff reported the incident. A staff member was responding to a smoke detector that was going off in the room when he or she “observed blood on the wall,” according to an affidavit reviewed by the Washington Examiner.
