A man is in the hospital after being shot by Federal Way police officers while attempting to break into his ex-girlfriend's apartment.

Officers were dispatched to Kitts Corner Apartments, 1201 S. 336th St, for a domestic violence incident with shots being fired on July 7 at about 5:45 a.m. Police said the caller reported that the suspect, who was her ex-boyfriend, was breaking into her apartment through a rear patio door. Officers saw the armed man on the rear patio when they arrived. Police said he was still presenting to be a threat to the responding officers and apartment occupants which led to shots being fired by the officers.
The officers provided first aid and then took the 42-year-old man to Harborview Medical Center. He is expected to survive his injuries, according to police. Per Federal Way Police Department policy, the officers were placed on administrative leave. The Valley Independent Investigation Team responded and is investigating the incident.
