Juan Delgado was convicted of first-degree murder for the March 2023 shooting of Jean Rivera.

Surveillance cameras recorded Juan Delgado shooting Jean Rivera at point-blank range in broad daylight as Rivera sat on his front porch in Lebanon on March 9, 2023. A man convicted of killing a man at point-blank range as he sat on the front porch of his Lebanon home in 2023 was sentenced to life in prison this week.

Juan Delgado drove to Juan Ortiz Rivera’s home in the northern side of the city on March 9, 2023, and walked up to his porch with an illegally possessed 9-millimeter handgun, the Lebanon County district attorney’s office said. Prosecutors said Delgado, 33, shot Rivera, 30, two times in front of Rivera’s wife. Her testimony and home surveillance footage of the shooting were presented while Delgado stood trial in November on first-degree murder charges. Delgado fled after the shooting, threw away the clothing he’d been wearing and tried to ditch the murder weapon, prosecutors said. But Rivera’s wife knew who he was and immediately identified him to police, who arrested him hours later, according to the district attorney’s office. Police said they identified Delgado from a unique tattoo that’s visible in the surveillance footage. Nearly a month later, a man with ties to Delgado was arrested after police found him with the murder weapon. That man testified at trial that he saw Delgado hiding the gun after the shooting. He also said Delgado confessed to him that he’d committed the murder. A jury found Delgado guilty of first-degree murder after a four-day trial. He was sentenced on Wednesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole — the mandatory sentence for a first-degree murder conviction in Pennsylvania. The Lebanon County district attorney’s office described the situation as a “senseless” killing that stemmed from an argument between the men. Rivera’s obituary said he is survived by six children and two grandchildren, in addition to his wife
