A 69-year-old man from Texas has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the repeated sexual assault of a child who he was in a position of trust over. The case highlights the critical work of special victim's units in protecting vulnerable individuals.
A 69-year-old man, Victor Rodriguez of Coupland, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child. Rodriguez was found guilty on January 15th of second-degree felony sexual assault of a child. The jury imposed the maximum sentence permitted under state law. Prosecutors stated that Rodriguez, who held a position of trust over the victim, repeatedly assaulted her starting when she was nine years old.
The DA's Office explained in a release that while the crimes occurred in various locations, a specific incident in Round Rock after the child turned 14 elevated the Williamson County case to a second-degree felony. The victim disclosed the abuse to law enforcement in the summer of 2022. Following an investigation conducted by the Williamson County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety, Rodriguez was apprehended in July 2023. District Attorney Shawn Dick remarked, 'Our special victim's unit was established to safeguard our children and victims of domestic violence. These prosecutors frequently encounter the most horrific aspects of our society, but they are dedicated to ensuring that these individuals are prevented from harming others.' Rodriguez will serve his sentence within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division
