Police and security officers were forced to evict more than 50 people from the rowdy crowd of 70,000 at the Essendon vs Richmond Dreamtime game at the MCG on Saturday night.
Fans were evicted for offensive behaviour, discharging a missile, breaking onto the field and being drunk.The MCG hosted the round 10 AFL match between the Richmond Tigers and the Essendon Bombers. A fight between two groups of men on the footpath between the MCG and Birrarung Marr after the game, about 10.40pm, ended in a man being taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It is understood the 25-year-old man was bashed with a didgeridoo and suffered a fractured skull and broken nose.During the game, police said an officer was bitten by a 21-year-old man who was being removed from the MCG for being drunk. Another officer was punched by a 36-year-old man who was found urinating outside the grounds, police said.
