Antwan Malone pleaded guilty to federal charges of attempted carjacking, a weapons-related offense and possessing heroin and cocaine base with intent to distribute, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said in a statement. Malone on Feb. 22 pulled up next to a BMW M5 SUV that was stopped at a traffic light near the I-78 West entrance ramp and Irvine Turner Boulevard and blocked the driver from getting on the highway, according to court documents.
Wearing a ski mask, Malone pointed a gun at the driver’s face and demanded the motorist get out or he would shoot, authorities said. The BMW driver managed to escape by ramming the car Malone was in and entering I-78.Police found Malone’s vehicle near Diamond Hill Road in New Providence and he was arrested a short time later, an investigator wrote in a criminal complaint.. The status of his case was not immediately clear.
