Reed admitted that he was behind the wheel of a Ford Explorer in June when McGee jumped in the passenger seat. Law enforcement officers tried to pull the vehicle over, but Reed led them on a brief chase before he tried to bail out of the vehicle at Benson Drive and Wolf Ridge Road. His attorney, Will Alford, told FOX10 News that Reed and McGee have known each other since middle school.
A judge set sentencing for Aug. 7. The normal sentencing range is 10 years to life in prison. But Alford said he believes his client will be eligible for a sentencing break called a “safety valve,” that allows shorter sentences for defendants with minimal criminal history and lesser involvement.
