Police said after the incident that they were investigating the shooting as self-defense.
Investigators were preparing this week to present the case to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether to file charges.The shooting happened about 4 p.m. Nov. 20 inside an apartment in the 7100 block of San Ramon Road, the home of the man who did the shooting.
The man was in a relationship with a woman who was also at the apartment, when Krainski, the woman’s estranged husband, showed up unannounced, police said. The two men did not know each other, police said.Krainski had a baseball bat with him and began hitting the man who lives at the apartment, police said.
The man, fearing for his life, was able to get a shotgun and shoot Krainski, police said. Krainski died at the apartment.
