A shooting at a CVS Pharmacy in Downtown Dallas on Friday night resulted in the death of one person. Police responded to the CVS Pharmacy on Main Street shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday. At the scene, investigators located 39-year-old Anthony Egeonu who had been shot. Dallas -Fire Rescue transported Egeonu to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Dallas police announced on Saturday that two juveniles are in custody in connection with the shooting.

The juveniles' identities have not been released due to their age. Authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the shooting or the specific charges the juveniles are facing.Egeonu's family expressed their devastation over his death, stating that they believe the situation never should have escalated to violence. His cousin, Marcus Pipkins, described Egeonu as a mentor and motivator, saying, 'He was definitely a protector.' Pipkins emphasized that Egeonu was a father of three and strongly advocated for de-escalation. He expressed disbelief and shock over the incident, stating, 'And for this to happen is, like, It amazed me, because it's like somebody took my cousin’s life, and he's not that type of person.'Michael Storbeck, a resident and manager of Scarlet Pumpkinel Tavern across the street from the CVS, shared his feelings about the incident, saying, 'I feel like a lot of people down here are affected. I feel like a lot of people are scared sometimes.' He expressed a desire for increased safety measures in the downtown area, suggesting, 'I think they need to step up or bring a new group down here to try to enforce something, kind of like they did in Deep Ellum to try and stop it before it gets worse.' CVS released a statement confirming that Egeonu was employed by a third-party security company and that they are cooperating with the Dallas police department in their investigation. Pipkins revealed that his cousin harbored aspirations of becoming a Dallas police officer and plans to pursue that dream in his honor. Egeonu is survived by his wife and three children
