Chicago police are investigating a hit-and-run incident that left a man dead Monday in the city's South Side neighborhood of Chatham.

Police said the incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. Monday when 59-year-old Eric Ray was hit near the intersection of 79th Street and MLK Drive in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood. The driver fled the scene after striking the man.

Ray was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, according to CPD. Ray is a resident of suburban Bolingbrook, according to the Cook County Medical examiner's office.Copyright © 2022 WLS-TV. All Rights Reserved.
