A man has issued a warning about solar panels after the battery sparked a fire at the home of his elderly relative. Medi Williams, 76, was able to escape from her bungalow in Anglesey when the blaze broke out at around 1pm on Wednesday.
Despite being inside the smoke-filled property, Medi was thankfully unharmed during the incident on Min-yr-Afon in Tyn-y-gongl, which was caused by an electrical fault, according to North Wales Fire and Rescue Service. Her son-in-law, Paul Fitton, said: "She breathed in a lot of smoke and went to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor for tests."
A spokesperson for NWFRS said that one person was able to get out of the bungalow but a solar panel and its batteries were destroyed by the blaze, They added that the cause was an electrical fault. Tom Boome, Head of Technical, Innovation and Climate at Clwyd Alyn, said: “We are aware of an incident at one of our properties in Min Yr Afon, where we have been working with contractors to install solar panels, air source heat pumps and batteries as part of our plans to decarbonise our homes.
