A man already in jail for an unrelated offense attempted to buy a baby for its organs after receiving a mistaken text about its baptism.

In a bizarre case of wrong number s, a man, who was already in jail on an unrelated case, attempted to buy an infant and 'harvest the girl\'s organs' after he received a mistaken text about the baby's baptism. San Antonio Police charged Jose Israel Teran Jr., 21, with prohibition of the purchase and sale of human organs, as well as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon from the previous arrest.

According to the police report, the baby's family sent out a group text on December 30 with an invitation to their 9-month-old girl's baptism. Unbeknownst to them, they sent the text to Teran by mistake, as they would later learn a family member had recently changed their number. After receiving the invitation, Teran allegedly responded with a text saying 'That's a nice Caucasian baby. How much you want?Another family member on the group text received another message allegedly from Teran saying 'Are you not interested in selling? I'm willing to start the bid at 500k,' according to the police report. Family members called the number and talked to a man saying that he was interested in 'purchasing the child and would be willing to pay for their child in cash or bitcoin.' He told the family member that he 'purchases babies for their organs and was willing to meet the same night for the purchase.' When police tracked down the owner of the phone, they realized he was already in custody on an unrelated case. Teran told police that he thought the invitation was 'spam,' but investigators are wondering why he kept sending messages after he received the reply of 'wrong number.
