A man has been hospitalised with stab wounds after a horrific attack outside a club in Sydney's south-west in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called to Revesby Workers' Club shortly before 4am on Wednesday where they found the man with stab wounds to his chest and side.

The attack was allegedly sparked after a 73-year-old man was ejected from the club and allegedly returned with a knife to threaten a security guard.The victim was treated by paramedics and was taken to Liverpool Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition. The 73-year-old was taken into custody at Bankstown Police Station where inquiries are now under way into the incident by detectives.
