A 31-year-old man died at the Harris County Jail on Tuesday after an altercation with guards, continuing last year's spike in deaths at the lockup.

Jacoby Pillow was arrested Jan. 1 after allegedly trespassing on private property, charged with a misdemeanor and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation, according to Harris County court records. The Houston Police Department is conducting a criminal investigation, and an internal investigation by the sheriff's office is underway, authorities said. An autopsy to determine the cause of death is pending.the most in nearly two decades.
