A Seguin man has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for the 2022 fatal hit-and-run of a Galveston physician near the seawall, according to court records. Logan Llewellyn, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of accident involving death and was sentenced as part of a plea agreement, according to Galveston County court records. Llewellyn had been accused of striking Dr. Nancy Hughes, 67, on her bicycle, killing her before 7 a.m. March 18, 2022, near East Beach Drive. He did not stop to help Hughes after she had been hit.Detectives arrested Llewellyn more than 200 miles away from the island, in Seguin, where police traveled to seize his vehicle.
Hughes was an internal medicine specialist who came from a family of Galveston doctors stretching back to 1939, when her father, Dr. Edward James Lebefer, began providing care to the island’s residents, according to her website. She graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1994.
