A San Antonio jury found a man guilty for the murder of a 16-year-old girl at a 4th of July party in 2022. Nathaniel Melendez Jr. fatally shot Evelyn Gumbardo on July 5, 2022 at the Legacy at Crown Meadows apartments in the 7700 block of Ingram Road . Melendez, now 21, faces up to life in prison. The jury deliberated for about three and a half hours before delivering the verdict on Friday. Melendez is being held without bond, pending sentencing, which has yet to be scheduled.
San Antonio man accused of killing teen at party testifies he was high on ecstasy and paranoid Melendez was high when he showed up to the party armed with a handgun, according to witness testimony. Melendez stated on the witness stand that he consumed ecstasy prior to the shooting. Posecutors Jonathan Alvarado and Jessica Schultz said when Melendez and his other friend arrived at the party, Melendez was armed with a handgun and his friend had an AR-style rifle.
