SIBU: A man was slapped with a fine of RM1,800 by the Magistrate's Court on Thursday (Jan 19) for voluntarily obstructing policemen from discharging their duty.

Magistrate Oon Kork Chern heard that at about 9.15pm on Jan 13 in Jalan Lau King Howe, a team of traffic policemen spotted a car parked at the roadside.

When one of the policemen walked to the car and introduced himself, the accused, Muhammad Nur Akmal Pauzi, 23, quickly reversed his car to escape. In the process of reversing his car, the rear of the accused's car rammed into the right side of the police car.Also Read:He was arrested together with his 18-year-old girlfriend who was then in the passenger seat.

Muhammad Nur Akmal, who pleaded guilty, in his testimony explained that he panicked due to the sudden appearance of the police and tried to flee. The accused was charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants discharging their duties.
