A man was fatally shot Wednesday near a park in the city’s Old Oakland neighborhood in the city’s 103rd homicide of the year, authorities said.
Around 9:50 a.m., officers responded to reports of ShotSpotter activity in the 600 block of 11th Street near Lafayette Square.
When officers arrived, they learned a man had been standing outside near the square when he was shot at least once. The man was then taken to a hospital by a driver, who then left. He died at 11:38 a.m., authorities said. Investigators offered no preliminary information about a suspect or associated vehicle, or what led up to the shooting. No arrests have been made, police said. The man’s identity was not available Wednesday pending next-of-kin notification.
The killing is the 103rd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. The California Highway Patrol has also investigated five homicides on freeways in the city this year.Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the shooting.
