A man was fatally shot in Mount Hope, New York City, early on December 19th, 2024. The motive and identity of the victim remain unknown. Police are investigating the incident and searching for the shooter.
Police responded to a 911 call about a shooting at the corner of East 175th Street and Monroe Avenue in Mount Hope at about 2:27 a.m. on December 19. They found an unidentified male victim with a gunshot wound to his torso. EMS rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not yet released his identity as no identification was found on him. The motive for the shooting is unknown and under investigation.
Police recovered a firearm from the scene, but it is unclear if it was the weapon used. Through December 15, the command tallied 25 homicides, 12 more than the 13 recorded at the same point in 2023. Shootings are also up 14% this year with 49 incidents in 2024 compared to 43 at the same time last year. The search continues for the shooter who was described as a man with a dark complexion last seen wearing dark-colored clothing and a ski mask while fleeing on foot eastbound along East 176th Street.
