An investigation was underway in Naperville on Friday after a 27-year-old man drowned when he tried to swim to a dock at Centennial Beach, authorities said.
Police said the victim entered the water with a group of friends, intending to swim to a floating dock in the middle of the deep end.At approximately 5:43 p.m. on Thursday, Naperville police officers were called to the beach, 500 Jackson Ave., after a person was last seen in the deep end of the pool and disappeared.Roughly 20 minutes later, lifeguards pulled a 27-year-old man, who was unresponsive, from the water. He was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead.
Police said the man entered the water with a group of friends, intending to swim to a floating dock in the middle of the deep end. Once the others arrived at the dock, they noticed their friend was no longer with them.Centennial Beach was closed on Friday following the incident. Anyone with information on the case was asked to call the Naperville Police Department Investigations Division at 630-548-1421.
