The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of vehicle manslaughter, authorities said.
A man died following a single-vehicle collision in Fremont early Saturday, and the vehicle’s driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, authorities said. Police responded to the accident on Grimmer Boulevard between Irvington Avenue and Carol Avenue around 1:42 a.
m., where they found a Dodge Charger with a driver and a passenger, according to a news release from the Fremont Police Department. The passenger, an adult man, died of his injuries at the scene of the collision, authorities said. The driver, also an adult man, was taken to a hospital. The passenger’s identity will be released by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office after positive identification. In their investigation, police found that the Dodge Charger had been traveling south on Grimmer Boulevard “at a very high rate of speed,” authorities said. The driver lost control of the vehicle while approaching a curve in the road, where it then collided with traffic barriers lining the outer edge of the curve. Authorities added that the traffic barriers did not play a role in the collision and did not obstruct the roadway. Drug or alcohol impairment has not been ruled out as a factor in the crash, authorities said.
