Lonnie Dorsey, 72, died nearly two weeks after being repeatedly stung by bees in his front yard. The bees emerged from a tree where an estimated 8,000 Africanized honey bees had been living undisturbed for years. Dorsey was allergic to bees and despite regaining consciousness at the hospital, he passed away on Sunday.

Dorsey was also allergic to bees, Byrns said. She said she visited the hospital every day since the attack, and said Dorsey had regained consciousness and seemed to be doing better until he passed away on Sunday. Byrns described Dorsey as a kind and gentle man who was well liked by those who knew him. She said the whole situation has come as a shock to their family.“He was very kind, and everybody liked him,” Byrns said. “He was just a gentle man. He never bothered anybody, he helped people.
