A second man who was also struck by the train in the incident received treatment at the scene for his injuries
Emergency services were called on Wednesday evening, September 14, shorty before 9.30pm following the incident on the train line in the Gormanstown area.
Gardai said the train had collided with two men, one aged in his 20s received treatment at the scene but despite best efforts was pronounced dead a short time later. His body was taken to Navan mortuary, the Irish Mirror reports.. A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardai and emergency services attended an incident on the train line in the Gormanstown area of Co. Meath yesterday evening, Wednesday 14th September 2022.
"Shortly before 9.30pm, a train collided with two men. One of these men, aged in his 20s, received treatment but was later pronounced deceased. His body has since been removed from the scene and taken to Navan mortuary." Confirming the news on Wednesday evening an Irish Rail spokesperson said in a tweet: “20:50 Connolly to Belfast Lanyon has struck a person near Gormanston. Line expected to remain closed for some time. Northern commuter services operating to & from Balbriggan only.
They added: “Update: Northern commuter services operating to & from Balbriggan only. This is expected to be the case for the rest of services this evening. Efforts to source bus transfers north of Balbriggan have not been successful.
