The motorway was shut between junction 20 for the A41 and 21 for the M1 at around 8am as emergency services were called to the scene.
This evening , a Herts Police spokesperson said: “Police were called shortly after 8.05am today to report concerns for the welfare of a man who had been found on the hard shoulder of the M25 clockwise, near junction 21a.“Sadly, the man, aged in his 30s, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.The motorway reopened shortly before 1pm.
