A 26-year-old man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in San Diego's East Village Monday night. Officers responded to reports of a suicidal man inside the Broadway Towers. When officers arrived, the man was armed with a knife, leading to the shooting. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
SAN DIEGO — One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in East Village Monday night.The shooting happened near E Street and Park Boulevard. Officers responded to calls about a suicidal 26-year-old man inside the Broadway Towers, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.The department said concerned roommates placed the call just before 8 p.m., saying the man had cut himself and taken pills.When San Diego Police officers arrived, they said the man was armed with a knife.
When they arrived, they went up because they heard there were other people in the apartment. They got to the apartment they safely escorted about six other people from the apartment. When they were confronted by the subject. At the time, the subject was holding a knife, and at that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred,” according to Lt. Mike Krugh with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.Officers tried life-saving measures and the man was taken to the hospital where he later died.
