JUST IN: Emotionally disturbed man carrying 2 gas cans taken into NYPD custody tonight at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Midtown Manhattan, law enforcement officials tell NBCNews.
A New Jersey man was taken into custody after entering St. Patrick's Cathedral with at least two gasoline canisters, police and law enforcement sources said.
Police responded to a report of an emotionally disturbed man at the cathedral in Midtown around 8 p.m., the NYPD said.The man walked into the cathedral with two gas canisters, but was stopped by security at the entrance before anything happened, a senior police official said.The Midtown North Precinct tweeted that there was a"heavy police presence" around the cathedral as police investigated the incident.
