A man struck a mailbox, a tree and a utility pole after losing control of his car10:20 p.m. Oct. 6.The Hiram man, 30, told the responding officer that he had been drinking after work and needed to go home and feed his cats. He was cited and released to a friend.

A motorist alerted police to a vehicle crashed off the road 10:20 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Geauga Lake Road intersection. The driver was reported to be out of his vehicle and acting weird.

The Hiram man, 30, told the responding officer that he had been drinking after work and needed to go home and feed his cats, but he lost control of his car. His vehicle was traveling west bound on Pettibone Road when it collided with a mailbox and a tree on the right side of the road before striking a utility pole on the left side of the road.

He refused a breath test for alcohol. Officers charged him with failure to control his vehicle and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was released to a friend.A candidate running for township trustee reported someone stole his political sign sometime between Oct. 3-4. The sign was located on the Lake Lucerne community side of the road. The value of the sign is $36. Police are investigating.Police responded 6:45 p.m. Oct.

The responding officer determined that one of the girls was not involved in the caper. The other one, an Aurora girl, 17, had scanned items totaling $17.96 for payment but had not scanned merchandise in her possession valued at $199.67. In addition, she had three unpaid items concealed in her purse. She faces theft charges in Geauga County Juvenile Court.A Florida driver, 88, failed to yield at a stop sign 2 p.m. Oct. 1 at the intersection of Geauga Lake Road.
