A Denver jury convicted Cameron Spain of one count of first-degree murder in the death of Tony Bozman, Denver District Attorney Beth McCann announced Monday.
Two Regional Transportation District workers found Bozman along a road near the intersection of 29th Street and Arkins Court — just off the South Platte River — and called 911. Paramedics took Bozman to a hospital where he died of five gunshot wounds. He was a father of two, according to court documents, and had been living at the Salvation Army’s Crossroads Shelter in the days before he was killed.
Denver police detectives conducted a detailed investigation that led to Spain’s arrest. A witness described hearing five gunshots and saw two men riding away on bicycles, one of them Spain, who was wearing a headlamp, an affidavit said. Spain had been living in an RV in the area. Police used GPS tracking to identify Spain, who had been wearing an ankle monitor related to a pending criminal case.
The jurors deliberated for about two hours last week before returning a verdict of guilty. Spain is scheduled to be sentenced on May 18.
