Manchester City players did not make much of what their victory over Young Boys meant but Pep Guardiola picked them up on it
Pep Guardiola stressed to his Manchester City players to celebrate their Champions League qualification to remind themselves of what it means.
Chelsea beat City in the 2021 European final and also won the Premier League in Guardiola's first season in English football, yet have struggled for consistency despite record spending. The West London club have blown through more than £1bn in the last three transfer windows alone - including purchasing Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer from City - yet finished 12th in the league last year and are 10th going into this game.
"So the other day, we qualified and ‘so it’s normal.’ I said to the players, ‘celebrate because one day, maybe we are not there if we stop doing what we have to do.'
