Manchester City have made circa £50m from their academy this summer but have some dilemmas to resolve before the window shuts
Such is the difficulty of challenging Pep Guardiola's talented squad, City have been forced to sell before they might have felt ready. That's happened already this summer.
When you consider the initial £25m they recouped for two untested talents, Shea Charles and James Trafford, which could rise to a combined £34m, you can see why their resolve is tested, even if they rate the talents. So the latest interest in James McAtee puts City in the same position again. Lucas Paqueta is the flavour of the month, although West Ham have rejected one bid and want to retain their Brazilian star. It means McAtee, through no fault of his own, could be further down the pecking order when De Bruyne returns.
Their resolve looks sure to be seriously tested again before the window shuts. Especially if Paqueta or a similar addition arrives.
