In a recent development in Hayward 's first homicide of 2025, authorities have formally charged a man in connection with the fatal shooting of a landlord who was killed in his own residence. The Alameda County District Attorney's office identified the suspect as 43-year-old Larry Jose Lopez, who is accused of murdering 68-year-old Rolando Jose Silva. Lopez has been charged with murder and an enhancement for the alleged use of a firearm causing great bodily injury and death.
The DA's office revealed that Lopez and Silva had a longstanding relationship, having known each other for 25 years.Chief Assistant District Attorney Royl Roberts expressed his profound sorrow over the incident, stating, 'This is a tragic case of a man being killed in his own home by an act of gun violence.' Silva's lifeless body was discovered at his home on Sunday morning, around 9:10 am, in the 500 block of Ramos Avenue in Hayward. A woman contacted authorities, reporting that her landlord had been shot. Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found Silva with a gunshot wound. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by personnel from the Hayward Fire Department, as confirmed by the DA's office.Later that same day, Hayward police identified Lopez as a suspect and apprehended him for murder. Lopez was subsequently booked into the Santa Rita Jail and is currently being held without bail. At this juncture, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. If convicted, Lopez faces a potential sentence of up to 50 years-to-life in state prison.
