KOTA KINABALU: A self-employed man, who offered a traffic police officer RM650 not to take action against him for an offence, was charged in the Kota Kinabalu Special Corruption Court here with bribery.
Ghani Ahmad, 39, pleaded not guilty before judge Jason Juga after he was charged under Section 17 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009 with offering the bribe to police officer Asst Supt Daniel Dominic.
Ghani was accused of offering RM650 cash to ASP Dominic from the Kota Kinabalu police investigation and traffic enforcement unit, as a bribe not to take action against him for driving a car without a driver’s licence and also for the release of one Malali Bin Juani who did not hold any identity documents.Judge Juga allowed bail at RM10,000 with RM2,000 deposited with a local surety.
