A Tennessee man who authorities say abducted a woman from her Arizona apartment, tortured her and then left her to die inside a burning vehicle is now in custody in Chattanooga.may be closer to learning what happened to her.
Hayes is responsible for the abduction, torture and murder of Mercedes Vega in April 2023, according to the Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff's Office. Her father says another shock came five months later, when Vega's autopsy came back, and revealed the presence of bleach in her throat.in downtown Tempe on April 16. Her friends reported to police that she had been abducted from her apartment.said when they went to her apartment about three to four days after she died, they saw 'blood all over her parking spot.'
