Police have released video after a deadly stabbing in Mott Haven .Police have arrested and charged a man in the stabbing death of a 14-year-old Bronx boy.
29-year-old Waldo Mejia has been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. He was also hit with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth-degree. The 14-year-old boy, identified as Caleb Rijos, was discovered behind the city-run Mitchell Houses located at 300 E. 138th St. in Mott Haven just before 9:30 a.m. Friday.Paramedics rushed the teen to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
It is unclear when he was killed, and police are going through surveillance video to figure out what happened.The victim lived in the complex, a building on Alexander Avenue. Detectives were initially eyeing gang activity or a physical fight as possible causes but believe incident could be connected to a string of similar stabbings.On January 3, 17-year-old Carlos Rivas was stabbed to death in East Harlem. And on January 5, a 38-year-old man was stabbed once in the arm as he entered the subway station at East 138th Street and 3rd Avenue.
