A man accused of murder and aggravated assault in a deadly road rage shooting in southwest Houston has been granted a $1 million bond. Authorities used surveillance video and license plate readers to connect the suspect to the 2024 incident that killed 23-year-old Jadrian Edwards.
A man charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the fatal shooting of a young father in southwest Houston has been granted a $1 million bond. The suspect, identified as Chavez, was apprehended by authorities who leveraged surveillance video and license plate readers to link him to the November 2024 incident. 23-year-old Jadrian Edwards was killed in the shooting, while his front passenger sustained injuries and was subsequently hospitalized.
The gunfire erupted on Beechnut Street, west of Beltway 8, and Edwards' vehicle came to a halt in a Wells Fargo parking lot. Edwards was discovered deceased behind the wheel. Remarkably, Edwards' backseat passenger managed to shield his baby daughter from the bullets, ensuring the child's safety. Police initially suspected road rage as a possible motive, but court documents haven't disclosed a specific reason for the attack.Investigators obtained security footage, including from a METRO bus, showing both vehicles involved—Edwards' white Ford Crown Victoria and Chavez's silver Toyota RAV-4—traveling at similar speeds. Crucially, the footage captured Edwards' passenger extending his arm out the car window for an unknown reason, followed by the driver of the RAV-4 drawing a gun and opening fire. Security footage also showed Edwards' passenger ducking for cover as shots were fired. License plate data linked the RAV-4 to Chavez, and his ankle monitor data further corroborated his presence at the scene of the shooting.
