Before the driver got away, he was caught on cell phone video by the food truck's owners.The family says they gave the driver an opportunity to do the right thing.
“The hit was hard and fast while I was chopping onions and it pushed me back,” said Gerardo Reyes, owner of It was on Saturday night when Reyes and his son were inside their food truck on the 3600 block of Southeast Military Drive, getting ready to open. Reyes said he thought he had his first customer, but instead was sideswiped by a truck.The impact sent food flying. Reyes says he came out and confronted the driver. He asked his son to call police. Reyes says when they started calling, the driver started taking off.
Reyes says he asked his son for his cell phone and started recording the man taking off. In the video you can hear Reyes asking the driver twice in Spanish not to leave.Reyes says the damage to his food truck is more bad luck. Just one year ago, he along with seven other family members were hit head on near Southcross Ranch Road and New Sulphur Springs, police say by a teenage drunk driver.
Reyes says his wife is still recovering, still unable to work so the food truck was helping them with income. Reyes made some repairs himself, so he can keep working. He is now asking for the public's help.Police search for driver involved in hit-and-run north of downtown
