Callan Mears was slapped with a three-year restraining order in 2021 and told not contact Chloe Pearce.
A man broke into his ex-girlfriend's house and attacked her new partner despite having a restraining order not contact the woman.
Despite nerves at going public over her ordeal, Chloe said she hopes sharing her story will help other survivors and empower them to reach out for help. But as time went on, Chloe says Mears became violent, jealous and controlling, and she described how she feared for her life on a number of occasions and even ended up in a women’s refuge.
Chloe said the pair split up in 2019 while Mears promised to sort out his behaviour through anger management courses. She explained: “I called the police and they came and then I just knew I couldn’t be with him anymore. I phoned up Womens Aid and said I wanted to go into refuge now. I left with nothing but the clothes on my back.”She said she dreads to think what could have happened to her if she stayed in the relationship with him any longer.
Chloe said: “I had two calls off a private number and I knew it was him straight away. It was 5.30am and I was downstairs when I heard my door get battered through. Chloe explained how there was blood “all over'' her house, which she understood to be Mears’ blood after Chris acted in self-defence during his attack.
During the sentencing Mears, of Hendre Wen Road, Blaen-Cwm, was charged with two restraining order breaches, burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, burglary with theft or attempted theft with violence and assault. He was also given 12 months in prison concurrently for each other offence, and an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting or approaching Chloe and ordered to pay £228 within six months of his release.
Reacting to the result, Chloe said: “I’m a bit gutted. I can’t say I disagree with the judge but I feel there needs to be more justice for victims of domestic abuse. I have to uproot my life and move away as far as I can now, and hopefully he will never come near me again. I am mentally exhausted.” “You stay because of the fear of dying. It was like I was in a living nightmare and he was this big darkness in my life.”
