Police have now released CCTV pictures as part of an appeal over the alleged attack
An investigation has been launched after a man asked a passenger on a train to Manchester Victoria to marry him, put his feet on her then sexually assaulted her.
The victim was on the train to Manchester city centre when a man boarded at Farnworth station at around 11.52pm on July 20, according to the British Transport Police . He sat opposite her. He then asked her to marry him and 'put his feet on her' before a bystander stepped in to help, BTP added. As the train pulled into Victoria station, he allegedly sexually assaulted her.The suspect then reportedly ran from the scene. Detectives are investigating the incident and have today released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to about what happened.
"Officers believe the man in the CCTV image may have information that could help their investigation", a BTP spokesperson said in the appeal.
