A 32-year-old man, Joshua Santini, was arrested on 108 counts of violating a domestic violence no-contact order after a standoff and confrontation with a police dog . The Lacey Police Department (LPD) reported that a Lacey police officer determined probable cause to arrest Santini for repeatedly violating the protection order on numerous occasions during January. LPD patrol and Community Resource Unit (CRU) officers initially attempted to locate Santini but were unsuccessful.
On Monday and Tuesday, officers used historical information from Flock Safety technology, which includes license plate readers, video surveillance cameras, and gunfire locator systems, to search for the suspect. Based on the data gathered, CRU officers identified Santini’s vehicle on Wednesday and found it parked at a residence in Olympia. After hours of surveillance, police observed Santini outside the residence. CRU officers coordinated with Olympia police officers to apprehend Santini in the driveway, but he retreated inside before officers could approach. LPD stated that at that point, officers could see Santini inside the house and he appeared to see them outside.Police established a perimeter around the residence and attempted to coax Santini out, but he refused to comply. A search warrant was subsequently obtained for the residence, authorizing officers to arrest Santini and search for firearms. After hours of negotiation and de-escalation tactics, members of the regional Thurston County SWAT team and a Thurston County K-9 unit entered the home. A search revealed that Santini was hiding in the attic, but he continued to resist arrest. The police dog was then deployed, and Santini attempted to fight the K-9 but was overpowered and taken into custody. LPD reported that no firearms were discovered during the search of the residence. Santini was booked into the Thurston County jail on numerous counts of no-contact order violation in addition to felony domestic violence stalking, harming a police dog, resisting arrest, and obstruction. Lacey Police Department has also lodged two warrants against Santini
